LGBTQ Organizations

Believe Out Loud - Believe Out Loud is an online community that empowers Christians to work for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) equality. Reaching an average of 3 – 5 million people per month, we are the leading platform in Christian faith and LGBTQ advocacy.
-
Center for LGBTQ and Gender Studies in Religion - The Center serves three distinct but overlapping constituencies: the world of academic religious scholarship; faith communities; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer and transgender people and organizations. For each of these constituent groups, CLGS is committed to providing programming and support for research, resources, education for leadership, and community-building/advocacy.
-
How to Stay Safe Online - An online survey asked 695 LGBTQ+ people worldwide about their experiences online as they relate to their sexual orientation and gender identity. The results – referenced throughout this article – illuminated the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community.
-
Institute for Welcoming Resources - The purpose of this ecumenical group is to provide the resources to facilitate a paradigm shift in multiple denominations whereby churches become welcoming and affirming of all congregants regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. IWR wants to help build church homes that are truly welcoming and nurturing, where everyone knows “they’re okay, just like they are.” In early 2006, IWR became a program of the National LGBTQ Task Force, through a formal merger.
-
National LGBTQ Task Force - The National LGBTQ Task Force advances full freedom, justice and equality for LGBTQ people. We are building a future where everyone can be free to be their entire selves in every aspect of their lives. Today, despite all the progress we’ve made to end discrimination, millions of LGBTQ people face barriers in every aspect of their lives: in housing, employment, healthcare, retirement, and basic human rights.
-
Q Christian Fellowship - A diverse community with varied backgrounds, cultures, theologies and denominations, drawn together through our love of Christ and our belief that every LGBTQ+ person, indeed, every person is a beloved child of God. Q Christian Fellowship cultivates radical belonging among LGBTQ+ people and allies through a commitment to growth, community, and relational justice.
-
Whosoever: an online magazine for LGBT Christians - Whosoever was founded as a print magazine in 1996 to serve as a voice and a resource for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Christians. Back then there was little, if any, support to be found for LGBT Christians — not just on the internet, but also in print. Christian magazines such as Christianity Today and Moody’s regularly took potshots at LGBT people.
-
The Rainbow Initiative - The Rainbow Initiative is Episcopal Migration Ministries’ response to General Convention 2022 Resolution D045 “On Supporting LGBTIQ+ Refugees and Asylum Seekers”, which directed the Episcopal Church to promote support for people who have fled their countries because of persecution based on sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and/or sex characteristics. The Resolution also directs Episcopal Migration Ministries to focus attention on people subject to such persecution, and to offer information on how they could be better supported.
-
Church Clarity - Church Clarity is a crowd-sourced database of Christian congregations scored by a team of volunteers based on how easy it is to find a church's Actively Enforced Policy online. They currently evaluate church websites for policies that impact LGBTQ+ people and Women in Leadership.
